Last updated 22 September 2026. This page says what C'noté does with your family's data, in plain words, as it runs today.
Who we are
C'noté turns the emails your children's school sends into one short note for each parent, on WhatsApp, email or SMS. It is run from Switzerland by its founder. Write to get@cestnote.ch about anything on this page, and a person answers.
What we keep, and why
- About you: your name, your phone number and/or email address, your language, the channel and time you chose for your notes.
- About your children: first name, the names the school uses for them, year group, class and section — so the note knows which line is for which child.
- The school's emails that you forward, or that reach your private C'noté address: the email as it arrived, its attachments, and the text read from them.
- What C'noté made from them: the dates, events and to-dos found in each email (each with the school's own words as evidence), and the notes sent to you.
- What you tell C'noté: your replies, questions and taps, and facts you asked it to remember (for example an absence).
It is used for one purpose: writing and delivering your notes, and answering your questions about the school's mail. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and never used by C'noté to train AI models.
Where it is kept
On one server at OVHcloud in France: a database and a folder of the school's emails, with a nightly backup on the same server that keeps the last 30 days. The companies below process part of it for us, each for one job:
| Who | What they do | What they see | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mistral AI | Reads the school's emails to extract dates and to-dos; writes the note's lines; answers questions | School email text and attachments' text, children's first names and year groups, parents' questions | France (La Plateforme, Paris) |
| Meta (WhatsApp Business) | Delivers the notes on WhatsApp and carries parents' replies | Parent's phone number and name, the notes, parents' messages and taps, and the school's PDF (an invoice, a form) sent with an answer that cites it | Meta Platforms Ireland (EEA); WhatsApp may route messages through Meta's servers outside the EU |
| Infomaniak | Sends email (notes by email, sign-in links, answers to replies); DNS for cestnote.ch | Parent's email address and the email's content | Switzerland (Geneva) |
| OVHcloud | Hosts the server, the database, the stored emails and the nightly backups; SMS when a parent chooses it | Everything C'noté stores; for SMS, the phone number and the note | France (EU) |
No trackers
C'noté's pages load nothing from any other website: no analytics, no advertising, no fonts or scripts from elsewhere. They set one cookie, the one that keeps you signed in.
How long we keep it
- The school's emails are kept for the school year they arrived in (a school year starts on 1 August). Once that year has ended, they are deleted — the email, its attachments and its text — when the founder confirms the deletion; nothing is deleted silently by a timer. So the school's emails are kept for about one school year, not more.
- What C'noté made from them — the dates, to-dos and notes — stays while your family uses C'noté, so your history and calendar keep working. A note's source then says the school's email was deleted, and when.
- Backups hold a copy for 30 more days, then roll off.
- Everything about your family is deleted when you ask (below).
What you can always do
- Stop the notes: reply STOP on WhatsApp, or use the pause link in any note email.
- See and correct: your settings page shows what C'noté knows about your family and lets you change it; ask us for anything else it holds.
- Erase your family: write to get@cestnote.ch. We delete every record about your family — parents, children, the school's emails, what was made from them, your notes, messages and settings — and the stored email files, then tell you it is done. Copies in backups disappear within 30 days. Notes already delivered to your phone or inbox stay there: they are yours.
- Complain: you can also turn to the data-protection authority where you live (in Switzerland, the FDPIC).
